Travel Tips for a Great Vacation!

Tip # 1 - Have a Vacation Fund

  • Set aside money each month or from each pay check to contribute to your vacation fund
    • Add it into your budget
  • Don't buy something you can afford just because you "deserve" it
    • Don't go into credit card debt purchasing a vacation
    • Purchasing something you can't afford will only cause stress! (You want to relax on vacation, not worry about money)
  • Set aside enough money to cover expenses on your vacation
    • You will need extra spending money for meals, excursions, entertainment, souvenirs, etc.
  • Consider a cruise
    • Cruises are a great value because they include: Accommodations, Dining, Entertainment, Broadway Style Shows, and Supervised Youth Programs
    • You also get to see many places in one trip
    • Often times cruise lines will run promotions with special amenities and great pricing (this is where having a travel agent can really help)

 Tip # 2 - Get Outta Town!

  •  Now that you have a vacation fund set aside it is important to get away
  • Avoid "staycations"
    • You will eventually find yourself doing housework, running errands, and checking into the office
    • You need to get away from your routine to truly get away from it all and spend time with your family

Tip # 3 - Pack the Right Stuff

  •  Avoid over packing especially when flying or going overseas
    • Call the hotel you are staying at to see if they offer laundry facilities
    • Many cruise lines offer coin laundry machines on board
  • Pack important items in your carry-on
    • Be sure to keep important documents (i.e. passport, birth certificate, ID) with you at all times
    • Pack jewelry or valuables in carry-on bag
    • Medication that you will need during your trip so that you always have access
    • Extra set of clothes and important toiletries when flying in case your luggage gets lost

Tip # 4 - Consider Purchasing Travel Insurance

  •  Travel insurance can cover the following:
    • Trip Cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances such as medical emergencies, death in the family, loss of job
    • Medical Emergencies - Most health insurance providers do not offer healthcare coverage while traveling outside the US
  • Do your research to understand what policies do and do not cover. Work with your travel agent to find the best option.
